Flaxseed + Sulfamethazole
Sulfamethazole brand name: Proklar.
Flaxseed has a moderate interaction with Sulfamethazole. Theoretically, antibiotics might interfere with the metabolism of flaxseed constituents, which could potentially alter the effects of flaxseed.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Sulfamethazole
Sulfamethazole falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Flaxseed interacts with.
Some potential benefits of flaxseed are thought to be due to its lignan content. Secoisolariciresinol diglucoside (SDG), a major lignan precursor, is found in high concentrations in flaxseed. SDG is converted by bacteria in the colon to the lignans enterolactone and enterodiol. Antibiotics alter the flora of the colon, which could theoretically alter the metabolism of flaxseed.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about pairing flaxseed with sulfamethazole (Proklar): this isn't a case of one harming the other. The concern actually runs the other direction. A lot of flaxseed's possible perks, like its heart and hormone-related effects, come from lignans that your gut bacteria turn into active compounds called enterolactone and enterodiol. Antibiotics like sulfamethazole knock back those gut bacteria while you're treating an infection, so flaxseed may simply work less well during that stretch.
This is purely theoretical, based on how things work on paper rather than real patient reports, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Your antibiotic still does its job, and flaxseed eaten as food is fine. If you take flaxseed as a concentrated supplement, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Sulfamethazole page
“Anyone prescribed sulfamethazole (Proklar), a sulfonamide antibiotic, often reaches for a probiotic at the same time to protect the gut, and that instinct is where most of this list lives. About Flaxseed
What is Flaxseed?
- Constipation and digestive health
- High cholesterol
- Heart health
- Menopausal symptoms
- Blood sugar support
Flaxseed is a nutritious food rich in fiber, omega-3 fats (ALA), and plant compounds called lignans. It is most reliably helpful for constipation and may modestly lower cholesterol, but evidence for many other uses is mixed or limited. It is generally safe as a food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it as a supplement, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
