Almotriptan falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.

Theoretically, combining garcinia with other serotonergic drugs might increase the risk of serotonergic side effects, including serotonin syndrome.
In one report, a patient experienced serotonin syndrome after taking garcinia extract (60% hydroxycitric acid) 1000 mg daily in combination with escitalopram 20 mg, which had been taken for a year. The patient was switched to sertraline 50 mg daily and again experienced serotonin syndrome.

Here's the concern with pairing Garcinia and almotriptan (Axert). Almotriptan is a triptan, which gently nudges up serotonin activity in the brain to stop a migraine. Garcinia may also have mild effects on serotonin. Stacking two serotonin-raising agents could, in theory, push serotonin too high and lead to serotonin syndrome: things like agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or feeling confused.

I want to be honest about the strength here. This is mostly theoretical, based on a single anecdotal report involving an antidepressant, not almotriptan itself. The risk with an occasional migraine dose is likely low. Still, since Garcinia's weight-loss evidence is weak and it carries its own liver concerns, I'd run it past your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

About Almotriptan

What Is Almotriptan Used For?

Brand names: Axert, Almogran

Almotriptan tablets are used to treat migraine headache attacks — with or without aura — as they happen. They are not for preventing migraines before they start.

In adults, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine attacks. In adolescents ages 12 to 17, almotriptan tablets treat acute migraine headache pain in those who typically have attacks lasting 4 hours or more when untreated. Note that in adolescents, the effect on migraine-related symptoms such as nausea and light sensitivity was not established in clinical trials. Almotriptan is not indicated for cluster headache or for hemiplegic or basilar migraine.
