Garcinia and Insulin Human, Sodium Chloride

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS

Why this applies to Insulin Human, Sodium Chloride

Insulin Human, Sodium Chloride falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Garcinia interacts with.

Theoretically, hydroxycitric acid (HCA), the main active ingredient in garcinia, might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
HCA reduces fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels in animal models, theoretically by delaying glucose absorption. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the gist of pairing Garcinia with your insulin. Insulin already does one main job: it lowers your blood sugar. In animal studies, the hydroxycitric acid (HCA) in Garcinia also nudged blood sugar a bit lower, possibly by slowing how fast sugar is absorbed. Stack those two together and, in theory, your sugar could drop more than you expect.

I want to be honest with you though: this is a theoretical concern based on lab and animal work, and it hasn't actually been shown in people. Still, if you do try Garcinia, it's smart to watch for signs of low blood sugar, like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or confusion. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before adding it, and don't change your insulin dose on your own.
