Rifampin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) INDUCERS — the group Golden Ragwort interacts with.

Theoretically, CYP3A4 inducers might increase the risk of adverse effects from the pyrrolizidine alkaloid (PA) constituents in golden ragwort.
Golden ragwort contains PAs. PAs are substrates of CYP3A4. Theoretically, drugs that induce CYP3A4 might increase the conversion of PAs to toxic metabolites.

Here's the concern with this pairing. Rifampin is one of the strongest 'enzyme revvers' we have. It speeds up a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Golden Ragwort's pyrrolizidine alkaloids happen to be processed by that same enzyme, and the trouble is they get turned into harmful, liver-damaging byproducts. So speeding up that pathway could, in theory, mean your liver makes more of the toxic stuff faster.

I'll be honest about the evidence here: this is theoretical, based on lab work, not real patient reports. But Golden Ragwort is already considered unsafe to take internally on its own because of liver risk, and Rifampin can stress the liver too. That's a stack I wouldn't take lightly. Please don't start this herb, and talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Rifampin

What Is Rifampin Used For?

Brand names: Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifadin Injection, Rofactor

Rifampin treats all forms of tuberculosis (TB). It is almost always used in combination with other antibiotics — your doctor will build a multi-drug regimen tailored to your infection. Treatment usually runs for at least 6 months total.

Rifampin is also used to clear Neisseria meningitidis bacteria from the nose and throat in people who carry the germ without being sick themselves. It is not used to treat active meningococcal disease. The intravenous (IV) forms — Rifadin IV, Rifadin IV NOVAPLUS, and the injectable form of Rifampin — are specifically indicated when a patient cannot take the drug by mouth.
