Hydrocodone Bitartrate falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Goldthread interacts with.

There's very preliminary evidence that berberine, a constituent of goldthread, might inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzyme. So far, this interaction has not been reported in humans. However, watch for an increase in the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 in patients taking goldthread. Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), clarithromycin (Biaxin), indinavir (Crixivan), sildenafil (Viagra), triazolam (Halcion), and numerous others. Use goldthread cautiously or avoid in patients taking these drugs.

Here's the gist: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down hydrocodone. The berberine in goldthread might slow that enzyme down a bit. If that happens, hydrocodone could clear from your system more slowly and build up, which could mean stronger opioid effects, more drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, nausea, and in a worst case slowed or shallow breathing.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. So far this is only a theoretical concern based on lab work, and it hasn't actually been reported in people. Still, because hydrocodone is a powerful pain medicine, I'd play it safe. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing the two, and don't change your dose on your own.
