Here's the thing with eletriptan (Relpax): when you take a migraine pill, you want it to absorb quickly so it can start narrowing those blood vessels and easing your headache fast. Guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and that gel can slow down or trap some of a medication in your gut before it gets into your bloodstream. The worry isn't that guar gum makes eletriptan dangerous, it's that it could blunt or delay how well your dose works, leaving you with a lingering migraine.

This is based on modest evidence with other oral drugs, not eletriptan specifically, so it's a possible concern rather than a sure thing. An easy fix is timing: take your eletriptan first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum. Run it by your pharmacist if you take both regularly.

Eletriptan tablets — sold as Relpax, Eletriptan HBR, and Eletriptan Hydrobromide — are taken at the onset of a migraine to relieve the headache and associated symptoms. They are meant to treat an attack that is already happening, not to prevent future migraines.

Eletriptan is only appropriate when a clear migraine diagnosis has been confirmed by a healthcare provider. It is not approved for cluster headaches, and its use in those cases has not been studied.
