Perindopril Arginine, Amlodipine falls under CALCIUM CHANNEL BLOCKERS — the group Hawthorn interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might cause additive coronary vasodilation and hypotensive effects.
Some evidence shows that hawthorn might lower blood pressure due to vasodilatory effects.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Prestalia pairs two blood pressure medicines: perindopril (an ACE inhibitor) and amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker). Both already work to relax your blood vessels and bring your pressure down. Hawthorn is thought to do something similar, gently widening blood vessels on its own. So the concern here is simply additive: combining them could push your blood pressure a little lower than your medicine alone intends.

To be clear, this is a theoretical interaction based on how these things work, not strong human proof, so don't be alarmed. Still, watch for signs of pressure dropping too far, like dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, headache, or feeling unusually tired. If you're thinking about hawthorn, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially since you already have a heart-related reason for taking this.

About Hawthorn

What is Hawthorn?

Hawthorn
  • Heart failure symptoms
  • High blood pressure
  • Chest pain (angina)
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Digestive upset
  • Anxiety

Hawthorn is a plant traditionally used for heart-related complaints, and some studies suggest it may modestly help symptoms of mild heart failure when added to standard care. However, the evidence is mixed and it should never replace prescribed heart medicines. Always talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using hawthorn, especially if you have a heart condition.
