Brentuximab Vedotin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hibiscus Sabdariffa interacts with.

Theoretically, Hibiscus sabdariffa extract might reduce the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx extract inhibits CYP3A4. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Adcetris (brentuximab vedotin). The active part of this medicine that does the heavy lifting, called MMAE, is partly broken down by a liver enzyme known as CYP3A4. In lab dish studies, concentrated hibiscus extract slowed that same enzyme down. In theory, that could let a bit more of the drug linger in your body, which might nudge up side effects like numbness or tingling in your hands and feet, low blood counts, nausea, or fatigue.

I want to be honest though: this has never actually been reported in real people, and it's based only on test-tube data. A cup of tart hibiscus tea is very unlikely to matter. Since you're on chemotherapy, please run any hibiscus supplement past your oncology team or pharmacist first.

What Is Brentuximab Vedotin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Adcetris

Adcetris (brentuximab vedotin) is used to treat classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) in adults — including newly diagnosed advanced-stage disease, as consolidation therapy after a stem cell transplant, and in relapsed or refractory cases. It is also approved for pediatric patients aged 2 and older with previously untreated high-risk classical Hodgkin lymphoma, given in combination with chemotherapy.

Adcetris is also used for several T-cell lymphomas — including systemic anaplastic large cell lymphoma (sALCL), peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCL), primary cutaneous anaplastic large cell lymphoma (pcALCL), and CD30-expressing mycosis fungoides (MF). Additionally, Adcetris is used in combination with lenalidomide and a rituximab product for adults with relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) who are not candidates for a stem cell transplant or CAR T-cell therapy.
