Prednisone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Hibiscus Sabdariffa interacts with.

Theoretically, Hibiscus sabdariffa extract might reduce the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx extract inhibits CYP3A4. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break down prednisone. In lab dish studies, concentrated hibiscus extract appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, if prednisone is cleared more slowly, a little more could linger in your system, which might mean slightly stronger steroid effects or side effects like trouble sleeping, mood changes, fluid retention, higher blood sugar, or stomach upset.

Here's the reassuring part: this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube data, and it has never actually been reported in people. A cup or two of hibiscus tea is very unlikely to matter. If you're using strong hibiscus supplements regularly while on prednisone, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.
