Theoretically, Hibiscus sabdariffa extract might reduce the metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx extract inhibits CYP1A2. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with hibiscus tea and your naproxen. One of the liver enzymes that helps clear naproxen is called CYP1A2, and in test-tube studies hibiscus extract slowed that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let a little more naproxen linger in your body, which might nudge up its usual effects and side effects, like stomach upset, heartburn, or fluid retention.

I want to be honest, though: this is purely lab-dish science, and it has never actually been reported in real people. The everyday cup of tart hibiscus tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're using concentrated hibiscus capsules or taking naproxen often, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

Here's the simple version: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP2C9 to break down naproxen (the pain reliever in Midol Extended Relief). Lab studies suggest hibiscus might slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let naproxen build up slightly, which might nudge up its usual side effects like stomach upset, heartburn, fluid retention, or a small rise in blood pressure.

That said, this has only been seen in test-tube research, never in actual people, and it's rated as a minor concern. A cup or two of hibiscus tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. I'd be a little more thoughtful with concentrated hibiscus supplements taken alongside regular naproxen. If you use both often, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor.
