Theoretically, Hibiscus sabdariffa extract might reduce the metabolism of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that Hibiscus sabdariffa calyx extract inhibits CYP2D6. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist. Oliceridine (Olinvyk) is an IV opioid given for short-term, severe pain, and your liver clears a good portion of it using an enzyme called CYP2D6. In lab dish studies, hibiscus extract slowed down that same enzyme. On paper, that could mean a little more oliceridine hanging around in your system, which might nudge up its opioid effects like drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, or slower breathing.

But I want to keep this in perspective. This is purely theoretical, seen only in test tubes and never reported in actual people. On top of that, oliceridine is given in a hospital where you're closely watched and doses are adjusted to your response. A cup of hibiscus tea is very unlikely to matter, but if you take concentrated hibiscus supplements, mention it to your care team.

Oliceridine (Olinvyk) is an IV opioid given for short-term, severe pain, usually in a hospital setting. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help break it down and clear it from your body. Lab studies hint that concentrated hibiscus extract may slow that enzyme a bit. In theory, that could let oliceridine linger a little longer, nudging up its effects like drowsiness, slowed breathing, low blood pressure, nausea, or constipation.

Here's the reassuring part: this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube data, never seen in real patients, and it's rated minor. Since oliceridine is given by your care team in a monitored setting, they're already watching you closely. Still, mention any hibiscus supplement use to your doctor or pharmacist so it's on their radar.

What Is Oliceridine Injection Used For?

Brand name: Olinvyk

Olinvyk (oliceridine) injection is approved for adults to manage acute pain that is severe enough to require an intravenous opioid analgesic. It is used only when alternative treatments are ineffective, not tolerated, or otherwise unable to provide adequate pain control.

Because of serious risks including addiction, misuse, overdose, and death, Olinvyk is reserved for situations where other pain management options are not sufficient. It is not intended for routine or chronic pain management.
