Eprosartan falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Hoodia interacts with.

Clinical research shows that hoodia can increase blood pressure. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with antihypertensive drugs might decrease the effectiveness of the antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypertension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the simple version: Eprosartan (Teveten) is a blood pressure medicine, and its whole job is to relax your blood vessels and bring your numbers down. The concern with hoodia is that some research suggests it can raise blood pressure. If that happens, it could work against eprosartan and chip away at how well it controls your blood pressure.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's a theoretical concern based on how hoodia seems to behave, not on studies of people taking both together, so it may never cause a problem for you. Still, since uncontrolled blood pressure matters, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding hoodia, and checking your readings at home if you do.

What Is Eprosartan Used For?

  • Eprosartan is used alone or in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure. Eprosartan is in a class of medications called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances that tighten the blood vessels, allowing the blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump more efficiently.

  • High blood pressure is a common condition, and when not treated it can cause damage to the brain, heart, blood vessels, kidneys, and other parts of the body. Damage to these organs may cause heart disease, a heart attack, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, loss of vision, and other problems. In addition to taking medication, making lifestyle changes will also help to control your blood pressure. These changes include eating a diet that is low in fat and salt, maintaining a healthy weight, exercising at least 30 minutes most days, not smoking, and using alcohol in moderation.
