Pindolol falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Hoodia interacts with.

Clinical research shows that hoodia can increase blood pressure. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with antihypertensive drugs might decrease the effectiveness of the antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypertension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the simple version: Pindolol is a beta blocker you take to lower your blood pressure. Hoodia, which people use as an appetite suppressant, has been shown in research to nudge blood pressure upward. So the worry is that hoodia could push against what pindolol is trying to do, making your blood pressure harder to control.

If your numbers creep up, you might notice headaches, or your doctor may simply see higher readings at a checkup. Keep in mind this concern is theoretical, based on how these things work rather than strong studies in people taking them together. Still, since blood pressure matters, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding hoodia, and don't change your pindolol on your own.

Evidence from in vitro research shows that hoodia may stimulate beta-adrenergic receptors. Also, clinical research shows that hoodia can increase blood pressure and heart rate. Theoretically, using hoodia with beta-blockers might decrease the effects of these medications. Some beta-blocker drugs include atenolol (Tenormin), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), nadolol (Corgard), and propranolol (Inderal).

Here's the idea behind this one. Pindolol is a beta-blocker, so its whole job is to calm down beta-adrenergic receptors, which slows your heart rate and eases your blood pressure. Lab research suggests hoodia may do the opposite and stimulate those same receptors, and some studies have shown it can nudge blood pressure and heart rate up. If both are true, hoodia could work against pindolol and make it less effective at controlling your blood pressure.

I want to be honest, though: this is a theoretical concern based on how the two behave in the lab, not on solid human studies of them taken together. Still, since you're treating high blood pressure, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding hoodia, rather than guessing on your own.
