Insulin Lispro falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Hoodia interacts with.

Animal research shows that a steroid glycoside of hoodia, gordonoside F, increases glucose-stimulated insulin secretion by activating GPR119. This effect enhances glucose disposal. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with antidiabetes medications may enhance blood glucose-lowering effects and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. Some antidiabetes medications include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), chlorpropamide (Diabinese), glipizide (Glucotrol), tolbutamide (Orinase), and others.

Here's the gist for anyone using insulin lispro (Admelog) along with hoodia. Insulin lispro is your fast-acting mealtime insulin, and its whole job is to bring blood sugar down. There's a theory, based mostly on animal research, that hoodia may nudge the body to release a little more of its own insulin. Stack that on top of the insulin you're injecting and, in theory, your blood sugar could dip lower than expected, meaning a higher chance of hypoglycemia.

Realistically that looks like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, confusion, or a racing heart. To be clear, this is a theoretical concern, not something proven in people, and it's rated moderate. Please don't change your insulin dose on your own. Just check your sugars a bit more closely and talk with your pharmacist or doctor before adding hoodia.

What Is Insulin Lispro Injection Used For?

Brand names: Admelog, Admelog Solostar

Insulin lispro injection is used to improve glycemic control (blood sugar management) in people with diabetes mellitus. It is a rapid-acting insulin analog approved for use in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

Admelog is specifically indicated to improve glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus. Humalog Mix75/25 is indicated to improve glycemic control in adults with diabetes mellitus; it is a fixed-ratio mixture of insulin lispro and insulin lispro protamine, and its fixed proportions do not allow for separate adjustment of basal (background) and prandial (mealtime) doses.
