Methyldopa falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Hoodia interacts with.

Clinical research shows that hoodia can increase blood pressure. Theoretically, concomitant use of hoodia with antihypertensive drugs might decrease the effectiveness of the antihypertensive drugs and increase the risk of hypertension. Some antihypertensive drugs include captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), losartan (Cozaar), valsartan (Diovan), diltiazem (Cardizem), Amlodipine (Norvasc), hydrochlorothiazide (HydroDiuril), furosemide (Lasix), and many others.

Here's the concern in plain terms: you take methyldopa to bring your blood pressure down, but some research suggests hoodia may actually nudge blood pressure up. If that happens, hoodia could work against your medication and make it harder to keep your numbers in a healthy range. You might notice readings creeping higher than usual.

I want to be honest about the evidence here. This interaction is theoretical, based on how hoodia seems to behave, not on strong studies in people taking methyldopa. So it's a caution, not an alarm. Since hoodia hasn't been shown to reliably help with weight loss anyway, I'd talk with your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and keep an eye on your blood pressure if you do.
