Here's the simple version: the phenobarbital in Chardonna-2 is a barbiturate, which already calms the brain and can make you feel sleepy or foggy. Hops are taken mainly for sleep and relaxation, and some animal studies suggest they have a mild sedative effect too. So the worry here is that the two together could pile on the drowsiness, leaving you more groggy, dizzy, or slow to react than expected.

This is a theoretical concern based on how hops seem to work, not on strong human studies, so I wouldn't panic. Still, since phenobarbital is a serious sedative, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, especially if you drive or take other calming medicines.
