Lansoprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Horny Goat Weed interacts with.

Theoretically, horny goat weed might increase the effects and side effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro, horny goat weed extract inhibits CYP3A4 and suppresses CYP3A4 mRNA expression. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear lansoprazole (Prevacid). In test-tube studies, horny goat weed seems to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, lansoprazole could linger a little longer and its effects (and side effects) might tick up. With lansoprazole that usually means things like headache, nausea, belly upset, or diarrhea, not anything dramatic.

The big caveat: this has only been seen in lab dishes, never confirmed in actual people, so it's a theoretical concern rather than a proven problem. Lansoprazole is also a pretty forgiving medicine, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, it's worth a quick mention to your pharmacist or doctor before you add the supplement, especially if you take other medicines too.

What Is Lansoprazole Used For?

Brand name: Prevacid

Lansoprazole is prescribed for a range of conditions where excess stomach acid is the problem. It treats active stomach and duodenal ulcers (sores in the stomach or upper small intestine), helps heal ulcers caused by NSAID pain relievers, and can reduce the risk of those ulcers coming back.

It's also used for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis (acid damage to the esophagus), and rare conditions where the stomach makes far too much acid — like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. When combined with antibiotics, it helps wipe out H. pylori bacteria that cause recurring ulcers.
