Methazolamide falls under DIURETIC DRUGS — the group Ilex Guayusa interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use might increase the risk of hypokalemia.
Ilex guayusa contains caffeine. Caffeine, especially in excessive amounts, can reduce potassium levels due to stimulation of the sodium-potassium pump. Diuretics can also cause lower potassium levels.

Here's the connection worth knowing. Methazolamide, your glaucoma medicine, can lower your potassium level a little as part of how it works. Guayusa tea brings caffeine to the table, and large amounts of caffeine can also nudge potassium down by pushing it into your cells. Stack the two and, in theory, you could end up with lower potassium than either one alone.

This is a theoretical concern, based on how these two work, not on strong studies. A cup or two of guayusa is unlikely to cause trouble for most people. Low potassium can show up as muscle weakness, cramps, tiredness, or an irregular heartbeat. If you drink it often or feel any of those, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
