Saxagliptin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Ilex Guayusa interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Ilex guayusa with antidiabetes drugs might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Animal research in a model of hyperglycemia suggests that Ilex guayusa may have antihyperglycemic effects, although it does not appear to lower glucose levels when compared with baseline. This effect has not been evaluated in humans.

Here's the honest picture: any worry about mixing guayusa tea with saxagliptin (Onglyza) is mostly theoretical. Some animal studies hint that guayusa might have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect, but that hasn't been confirmed in people, and it didn't even drop glucose below normal in those experiments. On paper, pairing it with a diabetes drug could nudge your sugar a little lower.

The reassuring part is that saxagliptin itself rarely causes low blood sugar on its own. So a cup or two of guayusa is unlikely to cause trouble. Just keep an eye out for shakiness, sweating, or feeling dizzy, especially if you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea. If you drink it daily or use concentrated supplements, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can check your readings.
