Theoretically, inositol nicotinate might increase blood glucose levels and may diminish the effects of antidiabetes drugs.
Inositol nicotinate is metabolized to niacin in the body. Niacin can cause hyperglycemia, abnormal glucose tolerance, and glycosuria. Increased blood glucose monitoring may be necessary, particularly early in the course of treatment.

Here's the thing to know if you're using Levemir (insulin detemir) alongside this 'no-flush' niacin product. Once it's swallowed, inositol nicotinate slowly turns into niacin in your body, and niacin can nudge your blood sugar upward. That can work against your insulin, meaning your usual Levemir dose may not lower your sugar as well as it normally would.

In plain terms, you might see higher glucose readings, more thirst, or more frequent urination, especially in the first few weeks. This is partly theoretical and based on lower-quality studies, so don't panic. Please don't change your insulin on your own. Just check your sugars a bit more closely and let your pharmacist or doctor know you've added this supplement so they can guide any adjustments.

Levemir (insulin detemir) is used to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults and children with type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. It is a basal insulin, meaning it works around the clock to keep background blood sugar levels steady.

Levemir is not recommended for treating diabetic ketoacidosis (a dangerous buildup of acids in the blood that requires a different type of insulin).
