Here's the gist with nelarabine (Atriance): this is a chemotherapy drug used for certain leukemias and lymphomas, and it works in part by being tough on rapidly dividing cells, including some immune cells. Jiaogulan, on the other hand, contains plant compounds that some lab and animal studies suggest may rev up the immune system. So in theory, taking jiaogulan could push against what your cancer treatment is trying to do, possibly making it less effective.

I want to be honest that this concern is theoretical, based on how jiaogulan behaves in research, not on real cases with nelarabine. Still, when you're going through chemo, it's not the time to take chances. Please loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before adding jiaogulan or any new supplement.

About Nelarabine Injection

What Is Nelarabine Injection Used For?

Brand name: Atriance

Nelarabine injection (brand name Arranon) is used to treat two aggressive blood cancers: T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL) and T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma (T-LBL). It is approved for adult and pediatric patients age 1 year and older whose disease has not responded to — or has come back after — at least two prior chemotherapy regimens.

Nelarabine injection may also be given in combination with multi-agent chemotherapy as part of treatment for newly diagnosed T-ALL and T-LBL in certain settings, as studied in clinical trials.
