Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thinking behind this one. Skyrizi (risankizumab) works by calming down a specific part of your immune system to ease conditions like plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and Crohn's disease. Jiaogulan, on the other hand, has shown in lab and animal studies that it may stimulate the immune system. So in theory, these two could work against each other, and jiaogulan might blunt how well Skyrizi controls your symptoms.

I want to be upfront: this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not on solid human studies. We don't have real-world proof it causes flare-ups. Still, since Skyrizi is a serious medication, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding jiaogulan, rather than guessing on your own.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Risankizumab-Rzaa page

“Echinacea captures the concern on this page better than any other entry. Risankizumab-rzaa (Skyrizi) treats plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and Crohn's disease by quieting one arm of the immune system, and echinacea, like nearly all 53 ingredients listed here, is taken specifically to stir the immune system up.”
