Here's the thinking behind pairing Jiaogulan with Stelara (ustekinumab). Stelara works by calming down part of your immune system (it blocks certain inflammatory signals) to ease psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, or Crohn's. Jiaogulan, on the other hand, may gently stimulate the immune system. So in theory these two could work against each other, and Jiaogulan might chip away at how well Stelara controls your condition.

If that happened, you could notice old symptoms creeping back, like skin plaques flaring, sore or swollen joints, or gut symptoms returning. I'll be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not proven in people taking Stelara. Ustekinumab is not a prodrug, so this isn't about how it's broken down. Before starting Jiaogulan, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor.

What Is Ustekinumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Stelara

Ustekinumab injection treats four immune-related conditions. It is approved for moderate to severe plaque psoriasis and active psoriatic arthritis in adults and children 6 years of age and older. It also treats moderately to severely active Crohn's disease in adults and children 2 years of age and older.

For moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis, ustekinumab injection is approved for adult patients only. A prescriber will determine which condition is being treated and choose the appropriate product, route, and dosing schedule.
