ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Selexipag
Selexipag falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Maitake Mushroom interacts with.
Animal research shows that maitake mushroom can lower blood pressure.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Selexipag (Uptravi) and maitake. Selexipag already works by relaxing the blood vessels in your lungs, and one common effect of that is a drop in blood pressure. Maitake mushroom, based on animal studies, may have a mild blood-pressure-lowering effect of its own. Stack the two together and there's a theoretical chance your blood pressure could dip lower than expected, which can show up as lightheadedness, dizziness, flushing, or feeling faint when you stand up.
I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is based on lab and animal research, not real cases in people, so for most folks it's a low-level concern. Eating maitake as food is unlikely to matter much. Before adding a concentrated maitake supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

“People take selexipag (Uptravi) for pulmonary arterial hypertension, dangerously high pressure in the arteries of the lungs, and that diagnosis raises the stakes on this list of 291 interacting supplements. I would treat it with real vigilance.”

About Maitake Mushroom
What is Maitake Mushroom?
- Immune support
- Blood sugar support in diabetes
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- General wellness and antioxidant support
Maitake is an edible mushroom long used as food and in traditional Japanese medicine, and it is being studied for possible immune, blood sugar, and blood pressure effects. The human evidence is still limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. It is generally well tolerated as food, but talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.
