Here's the basic idea: Marsh Labrador tea may add to the sedating, calming effects of medicines that work on your brain. Tasimelteon (Hetlioz) is a sleep medicine that nudges your natural melatonin signals, so combining the two could, in theory, leave you feeling extra drowsy, groggy in the morning, or a little off-balance the next day. It isn't a prodrug, so we're talking about effects simply piling on top of each other, not a change in how the drug is broken down.

Honestly, this is a theoretical concern based on how these substances behave, not strong human studies. On top of that, this tea contains grayanotoxins that can be genuinely toxic, so I'd steer clear of it and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Tasimelteon Used For?

Brand names: Hetlioz, Hetlioz Lq

Tasimelteon capsules are approved to treat Non-24-Hour Sleep-Wake Disorder (Non-24) in adults. Non-24 is a condition where the body's internal clock does not align with the normal 24-hour day, causing sleep and wake times to shift continuously.

Hetlioz capsules are also approved to treat nighttime sleep disturbances in Smith-Magenis Syndrome (SMS) in patients 16 years of age and older. Hetlioz LQ oral suspension is approved specifically for nighttime sleep disturbances in SMS in pediatric patients ages 3 to 15 years.
