Here's the simple version: Zaleplon (Sonata) already calms brain activity to help you drift off, and it can leave you feeling drowsy or a little foggy. Marsh Labrador tea has been reported to add to the sedating effects of things like alcohol and barbiturates, so the worry is that pairing it with Zaleplon could pile on extra sleepiness, more grogginess, dizziness, or trouble staying steady on your feet.

I'll be honest with you, though. This caution is theoretical, based on how the plant behaves rather than solid human studies. Zaleplon isn't a prodrug, so this is about overlapping sedation, not changing how the drug is processed. Since Labrador tea also contains a natural toxin and isn't considered safe for regular use, I'd skip it and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Zaleplon Used For?

Zaleplon capsules are approved for the short-term treatment of insomnia. Specifically, they help reduce the time it takes to fall asleep (sleep onset). Clinical studies showed this benefit for up to 30 days of use.

Zaleplon has not been shown to increase total sleep time or reduce the number of times you wake up during the night. It is intended for short-term use, and if sleep problems continue beyond 7–10 days, a doctor should evaluate you for an underlying cause.
