Here's the thing to know with this pair: it isn't about how your body breaks down amiodarone. Instead, it's about your skin and the sun. Amiodarone is already well known for making skin much more sensitive to sunlight, and some people even develop a blue-gray skin tint with long-term use. Masterwort contains plant compounds called furanocoumarins that can do the same thing, so stacking the two together could mean an easier, faster sunburn, even with normal sun exposure.

This concern is theoretical, based on how both react to light rather than on real-world reports, so don't panic. Still, since amiodarone is a serious heart medicine, it's smart to run masterwort past your pharmacist or doctor first, and to protect your skin with sunscreen and clothing.

Amiodarone is prescribed for adults with serious, life-threatening heart-rhythm problems that haven't responded to other medications. Specifically, it's used for two dangerous arrhythmias (abnormal heartbeats): recurrent ventricular fibrillation (a chaotic, potentially fatal heart rhythm) and recurrent ventricular tachycardia (a dangerously fast heart rhythm that causes unstable blood pressure).
