Here the concern isn't about how your body breaks down sertraline (Zoloft). Instead, it's about your skin and sunlight. Masterwort contains furanocoumarins, plant compounds that can make your skin more prone to burning in the sun. Sertraline can also occasionally cause sun sensitivity, so taking the two together may add up and leave you more likely to get a sunburn or a rash after time outdoors.

I'll be honest: this is a theoretical caution based on how these compounds behave, not strong real-world data, so don't panic. It won't change how well your sertraline treats your mood or anxiety. If you do use masterwort, be smart about sun protection (sunscreen, hats, shade), and check with your pharmacist or doctor first before combining them.

Modern scientific evidence to support these uses is very limited, and the plant can cause skin reactions to sunlight, so use it cautiously and talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Sertraline

What Is Sertraline Used For?

Brand name: Zoloft

Sertraline treats a range of mental health conditions. All formulations are approved for major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The oral solution (including Zoloft oral solution) and several tablet formulations are also approved for panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), social anxiety disorder, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

For OCD specifically, the capsule formulations and some tablet products are approved for use in adults and children aged 6 and older. Sertraline hydrochloride tablets (plain, not film-coated) are approved for OCD in pediatric patients as well. However, sertraline is not approved for major depressive disorder in children — only in adults.
