Here's the thing to know about combining masterwort with griseofulvin: both can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight. Griseofulvin already carries a known risk of sunburn-like reactions and rashes when you're out in the sun. Masterwort contains furanocoumarins, the same kind of compounds that make some carrot-family plants leave you prone to burns. Stack the two together and you may sunburn faster or more severely than you'd expect, even with modest sun exposure.

This is a theoretical concern based on how both work, not something proven in studies, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, it's worth being cautious. Wear sunscreen, cover up outdoors, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing these two.

Masterwort (Heracleum sphondylium), a plant in the carrot family, has a long folk-medicine history for digestion, nerves, and skin. Modern scientific evidence to support these uses is very limited, and the plant can cause skin reactions to sunlight, so use it cautiously and talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Griseofulvin Used For?

Brand names: Fulvicin PG, Fulvicin-U/F, Grisactin Ultra, Grisactin

Griseofulvin treats dermatophyte (ringworm-type) fungal infections of the skin, hair, and nails that haven't cleared up with topical (cream or ointment) treatment alone. It is used for tinea corporis (ringworm of the body), tinea pedis (athlete's foot), tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea barbae (ringworm of the beard area), tinea capitis (ringworm of the scalp), and tinea unguium (fungal nail infection).

It only works against specific dermatophyte fungi. Griseofulvin does not treat bacterial infections, yeast infections (candidiasis), or other fungal infections such as histoplasmosis, sporotrichosis, or tinea versicolor. A lab test or fungal culture should confirm the infection before treatment starts.
