Here's the thing to know about pairing masterwort with chlorpromazine (Thorazine). This isn't about how your body breaks the medicine down or how strong it is in your blood. Instead, both can do the same thing to your skin: make it more sensitive to sunlight. Chlorpromazine is already well known for causing sunburn-like reactions and skin discoloration, and masterwort contains furanocoumarins that also boost sun sensitivity.

Put them together and you may burn faster or react more strongly to UV light. This concern is mostly theoretical, based on how the two work rather than reported cases, so don't panic. Still, it's smart to use sunscreen, cover up outdoors, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Modern scientific evidence to support these uses is very limited, and the plant can cause skin reactions to sunlight, so use it cautiously and talk with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Chlorpromazine Used For?

Brand names: Thorazine, Thorazine Spansules

Chlorpromazine is used to manage psychotic disorders and treat schizophrenia. It also controls nausea and vomiting, relieves restlessness and apprehension before surgery, and controls the manic phase of manic-depressive illness. Other uses include relief of intractable hiccups, treatment of acute intermittent porphyria, and use as an adjunct in tetanus treatment.

In children ages 1 to 12, it is used for severe behavioral problems marked by explosive or combative behavior, and for short-term treatment of hyperactive children with conduct disorders. The oral forms are also approved for the management of manifestations of psychotic disorders broadly, in addition to the uses shared with the injection form.
