Here's something most people don't realize about glyburide: it can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so you may sunburn faster than usual. Masterwort contains furanocoumarins, the same kind of plant compounds that also boost sun sensitivity. Put the two together and the effect may stack, meaning a higher chance of getting burned, blistered, or developing a rash with less sun exposure than you'd expect.

This concern is based on how these compounds behave, not on strong studies of people taking both, so think of it as a reasonable caution rather than a proven danger. Glyburide's sugar-lowering action isn't changed here. If you'd like to try masterwort, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and protect your skin with sunscreen and a hat.

What Is Glyburide Used For?

Brand names: Diabeta, Micronase, Glynase, Glycron, Micronized, Glynase PresTab, Albert Glyburide

Glyburide tablets are used alongside diet and exercise to help control blood sugar in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication where the body produces dangerous levels of acids called ketones).

Glyburide may be used alone or combined with metformin when metformin alone is not enough. It can also be used to help transition patients who are moving from insulin or other diabetes pills to a new regimen, under a doctor's guidance.
