Here's the thing to know about pairing masterwort with clozapine: this isn't about how your body breaks the drug down or how strong it acts. It's about your skin and the sun. Masterwort contains furanocoumarins that can make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, and clozapine can do the same thing on its own. Put them together and that effect may stack up.

In plain terms, you could burn more easily or develop a rash with less sun than usual. This is a theoretical concern based on how these compounds behave, not strong human studies, so don't panic. If you'd like to use masterwort, check with your pharmacist or doctor first, and meanwhile wear sunscreen and cover up outdoors.

What Is Clozapine Used For?

Brand names: Clozaril, Versacloz

Clozapine is used for two specific situations. First, it is prescribed for people with severe schizophrenia who have already tried other antipsychotic medications and have not gotten adequate relief. It is reserved for this group because of its serious risks.

Second, clozapine is used to lower the chances of repeated suicidal behavior in people with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder who are considered to be at ongoing, chronic risk. It is not a first-choice medication — it is used when the need is serious and other options have fallen short.
