Here's the simple version: phenobarbital is a barbiturate, which is already a strong nervous system calmer. It slows brain activity to control seizures or help with sleep, and on its own it can leave you drowsy, foggy, slow to react, or unsteady. Motherwort has been reported to cause its own mild sedation, so pairing the two could add up and make you sleepier or more sluggish than you expect.

I want to be honest that this concern is theoretical, based on how each one acts rather than strong human studies. Still, with a medicine as potent as phenobarbital, I'd play it safe. Don't change your dose on your own. Just check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding motherwort, and watch for extra drowsiness, dizziness, or trouble concentrating.
