Octopamine and Meloxicam

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Meloxicam and Octopamine in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Meloxicam

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Meloxicam is filed under 7 classifications — including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (nsaids), cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) substrates, organic anion transporter 3 (oat3) substrates. Octopamine has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being antihypertensive drugs (moderate), monoamine oxidase inhibitors (maois) (moderate) and stimulant drugs (minor) — and none of Meloxicam’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Octopamine Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Meloxicam. It is the side-effect record for Octopamine on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Octopamine, this list is the first place to look. 2 entries are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Dehydration / Chest pain Worth acting on Additional detail

“Octopamine is commonly used as a stimulant. Due to its chemical similarities to synephrine, a stimulant with the potential to cause severe cardiovascular effects, Health Canada has set the maximum daily dose of octopamine at 50 mg.”

“Octopamine is chemically similar to synephrine, a stimulant that might cause severe adverse effects in some patients. Due to theoretical concerns for stimulant-related adverse effects, Health Canada has set the maximum daily dose of octopamine at 50 mg. However, clinical evidence on the safety of octopamine at any dose is lacking.”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Octopamine — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Meloxicam’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Meloxicam column appears here.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Meloxicam

This page covers Octopamine only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Meloxicam page lists 113 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Asarabacca (major), Beer (major), Siberian Cocklebur (major) and Wine (major).

By severity: 5 major · 81 moderate · 27 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Meloxicam page

“Most people take meloxicam (Mobic) daily for arthritis pain, which gives supplement interactions time to add up, so I read this list with real vigilance. Five of the 113 ingredients on file carry a major rating, and two are simply beer and wine, because alcohol plus any NSAID raises the odds of stomach bleeding.”

About Octopamine

What is Octopamine?

  • Weight loss and fat burning
  • Boosting energy
  • Athletic performance
  • Appetite suppression

Octopamine is a stimulant-like compound found in small amounts in some plants (such as bitter orange) and made naturally in the body. It is marketed mostly in weight-loss and sports supplements, but human evidence that it actually helps with fat loss or performance is very limited. Because it can affect the heart and blood pressure and is banned in some sports, talk to a pharmacist or doctor before using it.

Octopamine is a naturally occurring compound; supplement forms are usually synthetic or derived from bitter orange (Citrus aurantium) peel · Capsules, tablets, powders (often in fat-burner and pre-workout blends)

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Octopamine is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Octopamine record says about it on its own.

Octopamine: dosing

There is no well-established, standardized dose for octopamine as a supplement. It usually appears in combination products, and amounts vary widely from one brand to another. If you choose to use a product containing octopamine, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them.

About Meloxicam

What Is Meloxicam Used For?

Brand names: Mobic, Vivlodex, Qmiiz ODT, Anjeso

Meloxicam tablets and oral suspension treat the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA). The oral suspension and Zybic™ oral suspension are approved for JRA in children 2 years and older; meloxicam tablets are approved for JRA in patients who weigh at least 60 kg. Meloxicam capsules are approved specifically for the management of osteoarthritis pain.

Two IV (intravenous) formulations — QAMZOVA and XIFYRM — are indicated for adults for the management of moderate-to-severe pain, used alone or with non-NSAID pain relievers. Because these IV forms take time to reach full effect, they are not recommended when rapid pain relief is needed.
