Ceritinib falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.

There is some concern that ingesting large amounts of Padang cassia might cause hepatotoxicity in some people. Padang cassia contains coumarin. Coumarin has caused hepatotoxicity in animal models. In otherwise healthy humans, very high doses of coumarin, from 50-7000 mg daily, can result in hepatotoxicity that resolves when coumarin use is discontinued. Lower amounts might also cause liver problems in sensitive people, such as those with liver disease or those taking potentially hepatotoxic agents.

Here's the thing to know about pairing concentrated cinnamon supplements with Zykadia (ceritinib). This isn't about cinnamon changing how your body activates or clears the drug. The concern is simpler: both can be hard on the liver. Ceritinib itself can raise liver enzymes and, in some people, cause real liver injury, which is why your oncologist checks bloodwork regularly. Cassia cinnamon contains coumarin, which in large concentrated doses has been linked to liver stress.

So the worry is two liver stressors stacking up. To be fair, this is theoretical, based on how coumarin behaves, not strong human proof. Sprinkling cinnamon on food is unlikely to matter. But before taking concentrated cinnamon capsules while on ceritinib, please check with your oncologist or pharmacist first.

Zykadia (ceritinib) is used to treat adults with metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — meaning lung cancer that has spread — when the tumor tests positive for a gene abnormality called ALK (anaplastic lymphoma kinase). An FDA-approved test must confirm ALK positivity before starting treatment.
