Padang Cassia + Fexofenadine
Fexofenadine brand name: Allegra.
Padang Cassia has a moderate interaction with Fexofenadine. In vitro research shows that a methanol extract of Padang cassia inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Fexofenadine
Fexofenadine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the good news on this one: the worry about Padang cassia blocking the CYP3A4 enzyme doesn't really apply to Allegra (fexofenadine). Fexofenadine isn't broken down much by the liver at all. Instead, it mostly passes through your body unchanged, moving in and out of cells through transporters like P-glycoprotein. So the CYP3A4 concern listed in our database is unlikely to change how fexofenadine works for you.
On top of that, this interaction is only theoretical, based on a lab (test tube) study, not on people. And normal kitchen amounts of cinnamon in your food are nothing to lose sleep over. If you're thinking about a concentrated cinnamon supplement, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first, mainly because of the coumarin content.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fexofenadine page
“An over-the-counter allergy pill sounds like the last place serious interactions would hide, but fexofenadine (Allegra) has 154 supplements and foods on file, and the five rated major deserve real attention before you combine it with much of anything else. Two of those five sit in most refrigerators.”

About Padang Cassia
What is Padang Cassia?
- Adding flavor to food
- Digestive upset
- Blood sugar support
- Antimicrobial purposes
- Antioxidant support
Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.
About Fexofenadine
What Is Fexofenadine Used For?
Brand name: Allegra
Fexofenadine temporarily relieves symptoms of hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis) and other upper respiratory allergies, including runny nose, sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the nose or throat.
Several products — including Allegra Hives 24hr tablets — are specifically used to reduce hives (urticaria) and relieve the itching that comes with them. Keep in mind that fexofenadine will not prevent hives or stop an allergic skin reaction from happening in the first place.
