Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Fosphenytoin
Fosphenytoin falls under HEPATOTOXIC DRUGS — the group Padang Cassia interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the concern with pairing concentrated Padang cassia (a cassia cinnamon) with fosphenytoin. This cinnamon naturally contains coumarin, a compound that in large amounts has been linked to liver stress. Fosphenytoin itself can occasionally affect the liver, so stacking two things that lean on your liver may add up, at least in theory.
To be clear, this is a theoretical caution based on how these compounds behave, not a documented event with this drug. It does not change how fosphenytoin works, just the small chance of liver strain (tiredness, yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain). A sprinkle of cinnamon on your food is no worry. Before using concentrated cinnamon supplements, check with your pharmacist or doctor, especially since you may already get liver checks on this medicine.

About Padang Cassia
What is Padang Cassia?
- Adding flavor to food
- Digestive upset
- Blood sugar support
- Antimicrobial purposes
- Antioxidant support
Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.
