In vitro research shows that a methanol extract of Padang cassia inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) activity. Theoretically, taking Padang cassia with CYP3A4 substrates might increase the effects and side effects of these substrates.

Here's the gist for pimozide (Orap): your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear it out. Lab studies suggest a concentrated extract of Padang cassia cinnamon may slow that same enzyme down. If pimozide gets cleared more slowly, it can build up in your system, and that's worth paying attention to because pimozide is a sensitive drug. Higher levels can affect your heart's rhythm (a QT prolongation risk), and you might notice more drowsiness, stiffness, restlessness, or tremor.

The honest part: this is only test-tube evidence, not proof it happens in people. Sprinkling cinnamon on your food is no concern. But before using concentrated cinnamon capsules, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Padang Cassia is a type of cinnamon (Indonesian or Korintje cinnamon) grown mainly in Indonesia and used widely as a kitchen spice. As a supplement, evidence for health benefits like blood sugar control is limited and mixed, and like other cassia cinnamons it naturally contains coumarin, which can be harmful to the liver in large amounts. Use food amounts freely, but talk to a pharmacist or doctor before taking concentrated cinnamon supplements.

What Is Pimozide Used For?

Brand name: Orap

Pimozide tablets are used to suppress motor tics (involuntary movements) and phonic tics (involuntary sounds or words) in people with Tourette's Disorder. It is reserved for patients whose daily life or development is severely affected by their tics — it is not intended as a first-line treatment, and it is not used for tics that are mild or mainly cosmetic concerns.

Pimozide is not meant for tics caused by other conditions or medications, and it should not be used for simple tics unrelated to Tourette's Disorder.
