Animal research shows that administering Panax notoginseng intravenously for 7 days before intraperitoneal injection of caffeine can decrease maximal blood levels of caffeine by 37%. This interaction was attributed to the ability of Panax notoginseng to increase the activity of CYP1A2.

Here's the gist with this combo. Panax notoginseng may speed up a liver enzyme called CYP1A2, which can lower the levels of medicines that enzyme helps clear. For your Phrenilin with Codeine, the acetaminophen and butalbital pieces are the parts most tied to this pathway, so in theory you could get a bit less effect, meaning your headache relief might not feel as strong or last as long.

I want to be honest about how thin the evidence is. This comes from animal and lab studies (using caffeine, not your actual medicine), not real-world human data, so it may not amount to much for most people. Still, since this product also contains codeine and butalbital, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing it with the supplement.
