Theoretically, taking Panax notoginseng concomitantly with aspirin may increase the risk of adverse effects from both products.
Animal research shows that taking Panax notoginseng extract with aspirin increases blood levels of salicylic acid by approximately 50% and blood levels of Panax notoginseng by 75% to 196%. This effect may be due to increased absorption of both products.

Your medication pairs aspirin with codeine for pain. The interaction we have on file focuses on the aspirin part. In animal studies, combining Panax notoginseng with aspirin raised salicylic acid (aspirin) levels by roughly 50%, likely because more of each one gets absorbed. Keep in mind this is theoretical and based on animal data, so it may or may not happen in people.

Why it matters here: aspirin already thins the blood, and this herb is traditionally used to affect bleeding too. Stacking them could increase the chance of stomach upset, easy bruising, or bleeding. Higher aspirin levels might also mean more ringing in the ears or nausea. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
