Apalutamide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Passion Flower interacts with.

Theoretically, passion flower might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that passion flower can induce CYP3A4 enzymes, albeit to a much lower degree than rifampin, a known CYP3A4 inducer.

Here's the short version: your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help process apalutamide (Erleada). Lab studies hint that passion flower might gently speed up that same enzyme. In theory, that could clear apalutamide a little faster and slightly soften how well it works against your prostate cancer. Apalutamide is an active drug, not a prodrug, so faster breakdown means a touch less effect, not more.

The good news is this is theoretical and only seen in test-tube studies, where the effect was far weaker than known strong inducers. For most people it likely won't matter much. Still, because apalutamide is cancer treatment, please run any passion flower or sleep supplement by your oncologist or pharmacist first.

What Is Apalutamide Used For?

Brand name: Erleada

Erleada (apalutamide) is used to treat two types of prostate cancer. The first is metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC) — prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body and still responds to hormone-lowering therapy. The second is non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC) — prostate cancer that has stopped responding to standard hormone therapy but has not yet spread to other organs.

Erleada is always used alongside a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) analog — a medicine that lowers testosterone — or in patients who have already had surgery to remove the testicles.
