Axitinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Passion Flower interacts with.

Theoretically, passion flower might decrease the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that passion flower can induce CYP3A4 enzymes, albeit to a much lower degree than rifampin, a known CYP3A4 inducer.

Here's the short version for Inlyta (axitinib): your liver clears this cancer medicine using an enzyme called CYP3A4. Lab studies hint that passion flower might gently speed up that enzyme, which in theory could clear axitinib a little faster and slightly lower its levels in your blood. Since axitinib is the active drug (not a prodrug), faster clearance would mean a bit less of it working against your kidney cancer.

Now, the honest part: this is only test-tube evidence, the effect was much weaker than known strong inducers, and it's rated a minor, possible interaction. Still, with a cancer therapy this important, I wouldn't guess. Please run passion flower by your oncologist or pharmacist before adding it.

What Is Axitinib Used For?

Brand name: Inlyta

Axitinib (brand name Inlyta) is used to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), a type of kidney cancer. Inlyta can be used as a first-line treatment — meaning the very first treatment you receive — when combined with either avelumab or pembrolizumab, two other cancer medicines.

Inlyta is also approved as a single agent (on its own) for patients with advanced RCC who have already tried one other systemic (body-wide) cancer therapy that did not work or stopped working.
