Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Brompheniramine, Pseudoephedrine
Brompheniramine, Pseudoephedrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group Pu-erh Tea interacts with.
Pu-erh tea contains caffeine. Due to the central nervous system (CNS) stimulant effects of caffeine, concomitant use with stimulant drugs can increase the risk of adverse effects.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version. One of the two ingredients in your medicine, pseudoephedrine, is a stimulant decongestant. Pu-erh tea brings its own gentle pick-me-up because it contains caffeine. When you stack a stimulant on top of caffeine, the stimulant-type side effects can add up. That can mean a faster or pounding heartbeat, feeling jittery or restless, trouble falling asleep, or a bump in blood pressure.
To be fair, this is mostly a theoretical concern based on expert opinion, not strong studies, and a cup or two of tea is unlikely to cause trouble for most folks. The bigger risk comes from heavy tea drinking or concentrated pu-erh extracts. If you have heart issues, high blood pressure, or notice your heart racing, check in with your pharmacist or doctor.
