Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Actifed Allergy: the pseudoephedrine part is a stimulant decongestant, and pu-erh tea naturally contains caffeine, which is also a stimulant. When you stack two stimulants together, their effects can add up. You might notice a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, restlessness, or a slightly higher blood pressure. The diphenhydramine in this combo is actually sedating, so the caffeine could also blunt some of that drowsiness.

This is mostly a theoretical, caution-based concern rather than something proven in studies. An occasional cup is unlikely to cause trouble for most people, but heavy tea or several caffeinated drinks could push things. If you have heart issues or high blood pressure, check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Diphenhydramine, Pseudoephedrine page

“This medicine pulls in two directions at once, which is exactly why the supplement list for diphenhydramine and pseudoephedrine (Actifed Allergy) is not one to skim. The antihistamine half is sedating, so anything else that slows the brain deepens drowsiness; beer, wine, and kava all carry major ratings, with alcohol the best documented.”
