Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: Actifed combines pseudoephedrine, a decongestant that revs up your system, with triprolidine, an antihistamine. The pseudoephedrine part already acts like a mild stimulant. Pu-erh tea has caffeine in it, so drinking it alongside this medicine stacks two stimulants together. That can mean a faster or pounding heartbeat, jitteriness, trouble sleeping, higher blood pressure, or feeling wired and anxious.

This is mostly a theoretical, expert-opinion concern, not something proven in studies, so a cup of tea now and then probably won't cause trouble for most folks. Still, if you have high blood pressure or a heart condition, it's worth being mindful. If you notice your heart racing or you feel uneasy, ease up on the caffeine and check in with your pharmacist or doctor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pseudoephedrine, Triprolidine page

“Ephedra is the interaction I would rule out first for anyone taking pseudoephedrine with triprolidine (Actifed, Triposed). Stacking a second stimulant on a decongestant that already raises blood pressure and heart rate invites real cardiovascular trouble, and that logic runs through most of this list, which deserves genuine care rather…”
