Desipramine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Rauwolscine interacts with.

Theoretically, rauwolscine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Rauwolscine is structurally related to yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist of it. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to clear desipramine out of your system. Rauwolscine, which is a cousin of yohimbine, may slow that enzyme down. If it does, desipramine could build up a bit higher than usual, and that can mean more of its typical side effects: a faster or pounding heartbeat, dry mouth, dizziness, constipation, blurry vision, or feeling jittery.

One thing worth noting is that rauwolscine is itself a stimulant that can push up heart rate and blood pressure, so pairing it with desipramine could double up on those heart and anxiety effects. To be fair, this interaction is theoretical and based on lab studies, not real patients, so don't panic. Just run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Desipramine hydrochloride tablets — sold under the brand names Norpramin, Desipramine HCL, and Desipramine Hydrochloride — are FDA-approved for the treatment of depression in adults. Norpramin tablets and the generic formulations share this same approved indication.

Desipramine tablets are not approved for use in children. Adolescents and elderly patients may be prescribed it in certain circumstances, but at lower doses and under close supervision.
