Here's the connection worth knowing about. Olanzapine (Zyprexa), like many antipsychotics, can slightly lower your seizure threshold, meaning it can make a seizure a little more likely in people who are prone to them. Rauwolscine is a stimulant that revs up your nervous system, and in animal studies it also lowered the seizure threshold. So in theory, stacking the two together could nudge that risk up a bit.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this is based on lab and animal research only, not real-world human reports, so the actual risk for most people is probably low. Still, rauwolscine on its own can raise heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety, which isn't a great mix with a calming medication like olanzapine. Before combining them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Theoretically, rauwolscine might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2D6.
Rauwolscine is structurally related to yohimbine. In vitro research shows that yohimbine inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist of it. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to help clear olanzapine (Zyprexa) out of your system. Rauwolscine is a close cousin of yohimbine, and lab studies suggest yohimbine can slow that same enzyme down. If that holds true, olanzapine could clear a bit slower and build up, which may nudge up its usual side effects like drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, weight gain, or a faster heartbeat.

I want to be honest about the strength of this one. It's only theoretical, based on test-tube data, not real patient reports, so the actual risk may be small. Still, rauwolscine itself raises heart rate, blood pressure, and anxiety, which isn't a great mix with an antipsychotic. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Rauwolscine (alpha-yohimbine) is a stimulant alkaloid closely related to yohimbine that is marketed mainly in fat-burning and pre-workout supplements. Human evidence for its benefits is very limited, and it can raise heart rate and blood pressure and cause anxiety, so it should be used with caution and is not recommended for people with heart conditions, anxiety, or during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

About Olanzapine

What Is Olanzapine Used For?

Brand name: Zyprexa

Olanzapine treats schizophrenia and the manic or mixed episodes of bipolar I disorder in both adults and adolescents (ages 13–17). It can also be used alongside valproate or lithium to treat manic or mixed episodes in adults. When combined with fluoxetine, olanzapine tablets and orally disintegrating tablets are used to treat depressive episodes associated with bipolar I disorder and treatment-resistant depression in adults.

Olanzapine intramuscular injection (short-acting) is used by healthcare providers to quickly calm acute agitation in adults with schizophrenia or bipolar I mania. Zyprexa Relprevv — a separate, long-acting intramuscular formulation available only through a restricted program — is indicated specifically for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults.
