Why this applies to Mometasone

Mometasone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Rhodiola interacts with.

Theoretically, rhodiola might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research shows that rhodiola inhibits CYP3A4. This effect is highly variable and appears to be dependent on the rhodiola product studied. However, a clinical study in healthy young males found that taking rhodiola extract 290 mg daily for 14 days does not inhibit the metabolism of midazolam, a CYP3A4 substrate.

Here's the gist for mometasone (whether you're using the Elocon cream or the Asmanex inhaler). The body clears this steroid using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In lab dishes, rhodiola can mildly slow that enzyme, which in theory might let a little more mometasone hang around. If that happened, you could in theory see a bit more steroid effect.

But I wouldn't lose sleep over this one. The evidence is mostly test-tube and quite inconsistent, and a human study found rhodiola did not meaningfully slow CYP3A4. On top of that, mometasone creams and inhalers are barely absorbed into the bloodstream, so a stomach-enzyme effect has little to work with. This is a minor, mostly theoretical concern. Still, mention any new supplement to your pharmacist so they have the full picture.

Mometasone Furoate topical products are used to relieve the inflammation and itching (pruritus) that come with corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses — a broad category of skin conditions that respond to steroid treatment.

Mometasone Furoate Topical Solution (Lotion) is specifically indicated for these skin conditions in patients 12 years of age and older. Mometasone Furoate cream may be used in adults and in children 2 years of age and older.
