Clonazepam falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP3A4 substrates may increase the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems strongly inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity.

Here's the short version: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down clonazepam (Klonopin) and clear it out. Lab studies hint that rooibos may slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, clonazepam could hang around a bit longer than usual, which might nudge up its calming effects, things like extra drowsiness, dizziness, grogginess, or feeling unsteady on your feet.

Now, the reassuring part. This concern comes only from test-tube research using concentrated rooibos extract, not from people drinking the tea. A cup or two of rooibos is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you're using strong rooibos supplements or notice more sleepiness, just check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Clonazepam Used For?

Brand names: Klonopin, Rivotril, Ceberclon

Clonazepam is approved to treat several types of seizures — including Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a severe form of epilepsy), akinetic seizures (sudden loss of muscle tone), myoclonic seizures (sudden muscle jerks), and absence seizures (brief lapses of awareness) in patients who haven't responded to other medicines.

It is also approved for panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia (fear of situations that might cause panic). Panic disorder involves repeated, unexpected panic attacks along with ongoing worry about having more attacks.
