Mifepristone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Rooibos interacts with.

Theoretically, taking rooibos with CYP3A4 substrates may increase the effects of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that the methanol extract of rooibos leaves and stems strongly inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist: your body clears mifepristone (Korlym) mainly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. In test-tube studies, concentrated rooibos extract appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, mifepristone could build up a bit and its effects, both good and bad, could grow stronger. With this drug that might mean more nausea, fatigue, headache, low potassium, or dizziness.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it comes only from lab research, not from people, so it's theoretical. A regular cup of rooibos tea is very unlikely to cause trouble. The bigger question is concentrated rooibos supplements. Since mifepristone is a serious medication, just run any rooibos extract past your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Mifepristone (Korlym) Used For?

Brand names: Mifeprex, Korlym

Korlym is prescribed for adults with endogenous Cushing's syndrome — a condition where the body produces too much cortisol — who also have type 2 diabetes or trouble controlling blood sugar. It works to bring those blood sugar levels under control.

It is only for blood sugar problems that are directly caused by Cushing's syndrome. It should not be used to treat ordinary type 2 diabetes unrelated to this condition.
